Mission

The Mission of the Hilliard Youth and Family Commission (HYFC) is to facilitate youth development by empowering youth and adults to build development assets and provide opportunities that enhance the quality of life.

The HYFC strives to produce the following outcomes: 1. Hilliard youth will have a safe and healthy environment to live and grow; 2. Hilliard youth leaders will represent other youth as advocates of community development and programs; 3. Hilliard adults will foster the 40 developmental assets within their home and community.

40 Developmental Assets

SEARCH Institute has researched 40 Development Assets to be vital to young people. HYFC seeks to surround all children and youth with networks of individuals and institutions that provide them with support, opportunities, boundaries and structure, and that nurture in them the commitment, values, competencies, and positive identity they need to grow up healthy and competent.

Hilliard Youth Council

HYFC, with support from Hilliard City Schools and Sunrise Academy, provides the opportunity to youth in this community to have a voice and ownership in asset-building initiatives through its Youth Council. These over 80 student representatives from 6th – 12th grades develop and implement projects for families and youth in Hilliard, thus building a better community by fostering the assets. YC projects have included: asset-building presentations and workshops, Family Week, Reading Fest, “Movie in the Park” and the “Stand By, Stand Up” bullying presentation.
